Nine months after its operations were abruptly stopped following the attack by bandits in March, the Federal Government, on Monday, announced resumption of train services on the Abuja-Kaduna rail line, ending what seems to be an endless wait.
Platforms Africa reports that the Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, who made the announcement while giving account of his stewardship in the ministry in Abuja, spoke against the backdrop of the halting of services after terrorists who attacked the train on March 28, kidnapped 61 persons, having killed eight and wounded several others, which generated an outcry and outcry across the world.
Families of the abductees, had prevented the FG from resuming the operation of the services in the face of the horrible ordeals of their relations, with things coming to a head, the terrorists, said to have a link with the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP), began torturing the victims, even as they began releasing them in batches, with the most recent being the freeing of the last batch on October 5.
Sambo, stating that the train services on the rail corridor would return this month, November, explained that adequate security had been put in place to ensure the safety of passengers, though he did not give any specific date for the resumption, while stating that the ministry had learnt enough lessons from the attack in March which claimed the lives of several passengers leading to the suspension of services.
